PUNE police have booked two veterinary doctors and their two staff members after a 12-year-old dog was brought to their clinic in Pashan for vaccination died of suspected strangulation while it was being leashed.
The incident took place on November 17. A 35-year-old woman had taken her 12-year-old labrador named Honey to the clinic for annual vaccination and nail trimming.
The woman stated in her complaint that the two veterinary doctors — one senior and the other junior — were present at the clinic. The two asked their two assistants to take the dog and leash it to a tree on the premises. The complainant said while the dog already had its own leash and collar, the clinic staff used a chain and a nylon collar to leash it. When the doctors and staff were leashing the dog, it got strangled due to a sudden pull and collapsed immediately.
The complainant’s mother, who was accompanying her, raised an alarm and asked them to loosen the leash and examine the dog. The doctors and staff took the dog inside and came out later to inform the complainant that the dog was no more.
